Playa Blanca lies at the southernmost tip of Lanzarote, and was once a small fishing village. It is now a flourishing but tranquil resort with beautiful beaches bordered by a picturesque restuarant-lined promenade. The resort is ideal for couples and families. The Jardin del Sol complex lies opposite the harbour and is less than 10 minutes walk from the town centre with its excellent choice of restaurants, cafes, bars and shops. Playa Flamingo is the closest beach (just a 5 minute walk), it has white sand and is family friendly with loungers, parasols, restaurants and shops. There is also a beach at the main harbour, and Playa Dorada is at the other end of the town. Take a stroll past Playa Dorada to visit the beautiful new Marina Rubicon, which hosts a weekly market, and see the fantastic boats, designer shops and new restaurants. Beyond the Marina the vast, deserted beaches of Papagayo are easily accessible by car. Outside the complex you have a selection of local shops, including an excellent SPAR supermarket. There is also a children’s park, pool table and drinks vending machine at the edge of the complex but these in no way detract from the peace and tranquillity of Jardin del Sol. It’s exciting and easy to explore Lanzarote island. By car, the Papagayo beaches and El Golfo, a natural cove of green algae against a spectacular backdrop of volcanic rock, are just a five minute drive. Going further, visit the typical Canarian village of Yaiza, and travel through the vineyards through the spooky lunar landscape to the weekly Sunday market at Teguise, the former capital. A car or coach trip will take you through the Timanfaya National Park and up to the volcano. Past Arrecife, the capital, you can explore El Norte (the North), taking in the unmissable Jameos del Agua (water caves) and Cactus Gardens. The caves are just one example of work by Cesar Manrique, the respected architect responsible for much of Lanzarote’s picturesque buildings.
My Jardin del Sol bungalows are conveniently situated in a quiet, off-road location but within a few minutes' walk of all that Playa Blanca has to offer. There are just 34 semi-detached bungalows, 20 of which surround the spacious pool area. Fully refurbished and available from June 2008, Bungalows 25 and 26 are south facing with great views over the communal pool. They have their own private patio, with loungers, table and chairs, small garden and barbeque. Both are decorated exactly the same and are fully equipped for a self-catering holiday. The kitchen comprises fridge, 4-ring electric hob, microwave, kettle, toaster, iron & ironing board, ample cutlery, crockery and cooking utensils with spacious dining area to seat 4 people. In the bedroom there are twin beds, a hairdryer and a safe. There is Satellite TV (mini-package) in the living room, a full double sofa bed, DVD player (bungalow 25), video recorder (bungalow 26) & film libraries plus a radio/cassette player. The bathroom has both bath and shower plus a washing machine and the maid calls weekly to change linen, with two sets of towels supplied weekly.
