Property Description

This luxury four star gold award self catering house is in a perfect setting, right next to Ventnor town centre and with fine panoramic sea views over the harbour and blue flag beach. It is the ideal base for a family holiday on the island or to get the family together to celebrate a special occasion.

The beach and shops are within a couple of minute's walk and there is a wide range of places to eat and drink within 10 minutes stroll.

Accommodation

The house was fully refurbished in 2007 and sleeps ten in five generously sized bedrooms (two doubles, a triple, a twin and a single). Additionally there is a double sofabed in one of the living rooms which can be used by arrangement. All of the bedrooms have nice views, either of the coast or of the downs which rise attractively behind the town. Other features include:

  •  A fully equipped through kitchen diner on the lower ground floor including washer/dryer, freezer and dishwasher.
  • Three bath/shower rooms plus a cloakroom.
  • New oak flooring in most rooms.
  • Free to view satellite TV in three rooms.
  • Large widescreen colour LCD television with DVD and VHS players in the main living room.
  • Wifi access for guests who bring their own laptops.
  • Exclusive on-road parking for two cars on a private road.
  • A cliff top grassed garden with a tropical tree.
  • Many Victorian period features including high ceilings, panelled staircase, ornate plaster cornicing and ceiling roses, chandeliers and high skirtings.
  • A high chair, travel cot and small bed are available for young children.

The most famous former resident was the composer Sir Edward Elgar who chose to spend his honeymoon in the house in May 1889.

Outside the main season, and when available at short notice, the house is available for short breaks.

Ventnor is a charming Victorian town noted for its sunny summers and mild winters. It is built on the sheltered undercliff on the south of the Isle of Wight and is dominated by the highest point, St Boniface Down, immediately behind the town.

Sir James Clark, Queen Victoria's doctor, endorsed the health-giving properties of Ventnor's climate: "nothing along the south coast will bear comparison with it".

In recent years Ventnor has become a centre for good food with the only Michelin starred restaurant on the island just yards away from the house and AA two rosette dining only five minutes away. This in addition to other places to eat such as seafront pubs, an authentic Spanish Tapas Bar and a smart seafront wine bar.
