Property Description

Villa with eight beds, garden of 2,50 acres and swimming pool
Il Granaio is one of the two country houses belonging to the family. Completely restored in 2006 it has been created to host sons and friends and it is carefully equipped with old family furniture. The house is built to a high standard: 1 large kitchen with fireplace, at the ground floor; 4 double bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 1 lounge/sitting room of 80sq m with fireplace and television at the first floor. Il Granaio is placed in a private setting of rolling countryside in the middle of a peaceful mini valley surrounded by olives, firs, laurels, cypresses and a secular oak. It is situated in the village of Serrapetrona with one small shop for basic needs, post office, pharmacy, bank and many restaurant and bars in a range of 7km. The swimming pool (5x10m, shallow end 1,20 m and deep end 2,10m) built in summer 2006 is shared with the owners.

perfect family vaccation home

OlB   Munich, Germany.
Date Submitted: September 03, 2008   Date of Stay: August 2008

We spent 3 weeks in August at this beautiful place. As we were travelling with four small children (6 months -6 years), we stayed most of the time in the area and we enjoyed it very much. Serrapetrona and 'il granaio' are beautiful and quiet places, ideal for people who want to relax. The hospitality of the owners Magda and Raoul, staying next door, were amazing, they really made us feel at home.
The house is very clean, well equipped and well maintained, the bed rooms and the living room are very nice and spacious. The only (little) drawback is the kitchen which is quite dark and one of the bathrooms having a tiny shower.
On the other hand the garden and the pool area are perfect: we enjoyed the pool very much which was cleaned on a daily basis by the owner.
Altough the owners are staying next door and had from time to time guests who used the garden as well, we never felt disturbed as they were very discrete.
On the bottom line if you are lookong for quiet and relaxing vaccation combined with warmth of italian hospitality, il granaio is the place to go.

lovely peaceful location

The highlight of Il Granaio is the location combined with the warmth of the owners. It is beautifully quiet, with a large garden and generous accomodation. Raoul and Magda ensured that everything was in order and let us know of local events (and even took us to two excellent 'Sagra's (food & drink festivals). The pool was lovely and though it mentions that it is shared with the owners there was rarely a time that both families were using at the same time. The house was amazingly well equipped and the quality of furnishings / bedlinen etc was high.

The village of Serrapetrona is quiet (a bar, pizzeria, restaurant and a shop) though there are three good sized towns in a 10 - 15 minute drive. There are also some VERY good restaurants in the country 5 - 10 minutes by car.

The only thing that could inprove the house would be a lighter kitchen area (though architecturally this isn't feasable!) though this wasn't an issue for us as we had beautiful weather every day, so we ate outdoors.

Le marche is a beautiful area and its well worth a visit. We'd certainly recommend this house. We were a family of 4 with daughters aged 10 & 12.

A plunge in the italian countryside

And & Ger   Rennes, Brittany, France.
Date Submitted: August 16, 2008   Date of Stay: July 2008

As a child I spent most of my summer holidays in this little village lost in the countryside so I was a bit nervous coming back here after so many years with my English wife and anglo-italian children: would they share my excitement and would they love it as much as I did or would they find it dull and uninteresting? I was relieved when after a few days I found everybody enthusiastic about the place. Obviously my opinion is biased but I do think the landscape in this part of Italy is unique with its mixture of hills with cultivated fields and in the distance higher steeper mountains with a wilder scenery.
The “Granaio” is a successful barn restoration project; it is tasteful and has kept its countryside spirit. It is very spacious and comfortable and can easily accommodate 8 people. There is a very large lawn in front of the house and the swimming pool, although not really a traditional part of the scenery, is an added bonus in the hot Italian summer. The kids loved it and the only problem was to get them out to visit the surrounding area. There is lots to visit and see, plenty of small medieval towns on hilltops and if you enjoy country walks there are plenty to do.
The food is excellent and cheap, the best are the small restaurants outside the tourist track; you will not find menus in three languages and you’ll have to cope in Italian but the seafood home made pasta I had there was memorable. The owners (Raoul and Magda) who are keen connoisseurs of Italian cuisine will be able to advise you on good addresses.
So although this was a very special journey back into my childhood I think this is a really great place which should please any country loving person.

Fabulous house, great location, wonderful owners

Kakianneva   Richmond, VA, USA.
Date Submitted: July 21, 2008   Date of Stay: May 2008

We stayed at Il Granaio in May 2008. Aside from the weather, which was a bit more rainy that we are accustomed to for Italy, our stay was fantastic. This house has a great floor plan. There is a huge great room at one end of the upper floor with a door to a long corridor off of which are the bedrooms/baths. The kitchen is downstairs, with doors to the interior stairs and to the outside. So its perfect for early risers/late night revelers to "do their own thing" without disturbing the rest of the party. There is a huge level lawn leading from the covered patio outside the kitchen to the swimming pool. The patio at the pool is lovely, complete with a poolhouse with a full bath and a covered picnic area. Beds/linens/furniture all very comfortable, kitchen very well equipped, all very clean. The owners were tremendously gracious - not only did they have us over to their house for a delicious home-cooked meal, they provided a huge welcome basket with wine, water, homemade cake and yogurt, cheese, bread, fruit, etc etc., and lovely fresh flower arrangements. It was very fun to get to know and interact with real locals, and added something special to our trip. We unfortunately had one sick traveler and the owners went out of their way to help us try to make plans for her early return - letting us use their computer, fax, making copies of our tickets, offering to make a doctor's appointment. We were a group of five, but the house could comfortably hold eight. This would be a particularly good property for families with children, since there is such a nice big yard and pool. The town is quite small and quiet, but has a small grocer, a few cafe/bars, an ATM, a church. I think there is also a small museum but we did not go in. The area is spectacularly beautiful - we often just stopped the car - there is no traffic - to snap photos of the "slendida vista." We went to a medieval festival one night in Camerino, about 20 minutes away, which was great fun. I think we were the only non-locals there. We made day trips to Cingoli, San Ginesio, San Severino, Macerata, Ascoli Piceno, the seaside, Urbino. And we went into Tolentino several times - its about 15 minutes away and has a medium sized Iper grocery store, pharmacies, the train station, two lovely churches, a cute central piazza with a couple gelato shops. Its very easy to get to the autostrada - maybe 10 minutes from the house. We would love to return to the area and would definitely consider this property again.
