Villa Gomera is located on Fuerteventura Golf Course near the small town of El Castillo (Caleta de Fustes) on the east coast of the island of Fuerteventura. This is a great central location for local amenities and for exploring the whole island. Some key distance markers include;
The island of Fuerteventura is circa, 100km in length is only 84 km from the African coast, and with a total area of 1,731 square kilometres, it is the second largest of the Canary Islands. The Canary Islands group consists of 7 large islands and 6 smaller ones or reefs, stretching approx. 500 km from east to west (27°38′ to 29°25′ longitude north) and more than 200 km from north to south (13°20′ and 18°9′ latitude west), and covering an area of 7499 square kilometres in all. Things to Do Locally Fuerteventura Golf Villa Gomera is situated on Fuerteventura Golf Club, an 18 hole championship golf course with lush wide fairways lined by swaying palm trees. The course, the first on the island of Fuerteventura, is a par 70 extending 6124 metres from the championship tees, with a mild descent from the Clubhouse down towards the ocean. The course, which is superbly appointed and maintained, will present a challenge to the most serious golfer as well as an ideal place to improve your golf game if you are less experienced. There is a large practice area which includes a 50 bay driving range area and extensive practice putting / chipping facilities. Professional tuition is available in several languages The Fuerteventura golf clubhouse includes large pro-shop, changing rooms with lockers, a club storage area and a choice of excellent bars and restaurants. There is also an outside terrace and garden area where you can enjoy your drink overlooking the 18th green with spectacular views down towards the Atlantic Ocean. Buggies, trolleys and two classes of clubs can be hired. Golf can be prebooked at reduced rates for guests at both La Isla Bonita villas. Also buggy and club hire can be prebooked. Please contact us for more details. Big Game Fishing If golf isn’t the game for you, what about a spot of big game fishing? Fuerteventura is widely reckoned to be one of the best areas in Europe for big game fishing, and there are plenty of organised trips led by experienced local skippers around the Fuerteventura coast. Shopping Or there is no shortage of other attractions on hand in the nearby town of Caleta de Fustes or the capital Puerto del Rosario, where there are a wide range of shops, restaurants, a marina and sea life centre. Across the road from the golf complex is a large commercial centre called the Atlantico with a large range of top quality shops, bars and restaurants set around beautifully landscaped gardens by the Ocean. A multiplex cinema is situated next door offering new releases in several languages. Watersports Further a field with the perfect weather, the constant wind and great water conditions, the opportunities for watersports on the island of Fuerteventura are virtually unlimited. The enormous variety of sealife make diving an experience not to be missed. A dive centre is located at the port area in Caleta (1-2 km from the golf villas). At most tourist beaches, you can find wind / kite surfing stations, jet-ski hire, and sometimes water-skiing. For the more adventurous, why not try kite surfing the new watersports craze (based in Corralejo). The west coast of the island in particular offers some of the best surfing locations in Europe if not the world. Every year in August, the world speed wind-surfing championships are held in Fuerteventura. Horse Riding There are several riding-stables that cater for horseback trekking around the island. Fuerteventura Beaches The most popular Fuerteventura beaches are located at Corralejo, El Cotillo, Costa Calma, Cofte and Jandia. Fuerteventura’s beaches are also very popular with Europe’s Naturists. A new 3km stretch of man-made beach is situated across the road from the golf course complex (approx. 1-2 km away). There’s also an existing beach in Caleta de Fustes to the right of the port (approx 2km away). This is a beautiful horse shoe shaped sandy beach, very safe and perfect for the whole family to enjoy. You can also hire sunbeds and parasols for the day at a very reasonable cost. Visit other Canary Islands For those who wish to explore, the neighbouring island of Lanzarote can be reached by ferry from Corralejo in around 40 minutes. It is well worth the trip. The Montañas del Fuego (Fire Mountains), the heart of Lanzarote, are like a moonscape. Many science fiction films have been shot here. There are more than 100 volcanoes on approx. 50 square kilometres which arose during the great eruptions 1730-36. In 1968, the region was declared a national park, the Parque Nacional de Timanfaya. A team of camels take visitors on excursions into this unique world. The volcanic island of Lobos, only approx. 6 square kilometres in area, lies off the north-eastern coast of Fuerteventura. A day trip from the harbour of Corralejo is particularly worthwhile for walkers and nature lovers. You can walk right round the island in around 2-3 hours. From the old lighthouse on the island’s northern tip, you will have a beautiful view of the bays around the Punta de Papagayo of Lanzarote You can day trip to most of the other Canary Islands by ferry from the Fuerteventura capital Rosario (10 mins by car) or the southern town of Jandia (50mins by car).
