Property Description

Badefols : Ancient land of legends...
Surveyed by the ruins of its château, the village has always held a strategically important place by the banks of the Dordogne.
Situated as it is between the ‘Périgord Pourpre’ and the ‘Périgord Noir’, between bastide country and the realm of prehistoric man, Badefols makes an ideal base from which to explore the whole of the Périgord.

Situated in this tiny sleepy hamlet just five km east of Lalinde. Which has a Boulangerie, where you can get your fresh bread and croissants every morning. An excellent restaurant just a two minute stroll away with an intoxicating view over the river. Also a superb cave selling many local organic wines.

Surrounded by beautiful countryside for walks. Local markets somewhere close by every day. List provided.

Wonderful food and wines.

Recommended list of restaurants provided.

It is a typical Peregord residence on three floors 90 sq.metres in total.

Lovingly restored and decorated in a minimal modern style with a hint of the orient.

Time by car:

Bordeaux: 1.30 hours ( Airport. Direct flights from Dublin with Aer Lingus and Cork, Edinburgh, Porto, Bologna with Ryanair + other European connections)

France’s second city every bit as beautiful as Paris just smaller

St. Emillion 1.00 hours

Most famous wine region and quaint town.

Sarlat: 40 mins.
Perfectly restored old town, dating from both medieval and renaissance times. Capital of Black Périgord, Sarlat is an exceptionally preserved city. More than 1.000 years of architecture live through lanes, roofs of roofing stones and fair and hot stone walls

Domme: 30 mins.

Domme is a little larger than many of the bastide towns, and is found perched high above the Dordogne River, with wonderful views of the river and countryside. Unusually among the bastide towns, Domme retains part of its original fortified walls and the gateways into the town.

Montpazier: 35 mins

The bastide of Monpazier is a National Heritage Site (Grand Site National) and, as well as being the best preserved bastide in the Dordogne, it is considered the most typical example of a bastide in the entire south-west of France.

Bergerac: 30 mins (Airport. Direct flights from Stanstead, Bristol, East Midlands, Liverpool, Brussels)

The Bergerac area has produced wines since the thirteenth century, and has exported wines since 1254, when it began shipping its vintages to England based on special privileges granted by Henry III of England. These dispensations gave the Bergerac community the right to assembly, special tax exemptions and the right to ship their wines to Bordeaux

unhindered.

Visit the Récollects Cloisters, now used by Bergerac’s ‘Maison des Vins’, and maybe do some shopping.

List of good shops supplied.

Issigeac: 25 mins.

Inside the old, circular walls, the narrow roads wind snail-like round and round in a village characterised by light and shadow, stone and wood where the roads, the alleyways, even the shops, live and breathe their medieval past.

Our favourite Sunday market and then a wonderful lunch in a choice of two superb restaurants.
