The gite is about 2miles from the nearest town of Allonnes which has a small supermarket, 2 boulangeries, and other shops. There is a restaraunt there but also many to choose from in the surrounding villages and also in Saumur which is about 10 miles away, roughly 20 minutes drive. The area is full of vinyards with whether at Saumur to the East of us of Bourgueil to the west of us and all these vintners offer wine tastings.

We are situated in the area of huge numbers of Chateaux, many offering different exhibitions, gardens and events. There are troglodyte dwelling to explore, ancient burial sites, and old abbeys. There is an excellent zoo very near Saumur at Doue la Fontayne and aquarium to visit. Saumur is the cavalry centre of France and there are horse shows to see at the stables. Also there is a tank musuem, one of the finest in the world, and a mushroom museum.

There are street markets in Bourgueil, Montsoreau and Saumur, and also a wine tour given by and English friend of ours in Bourgueil. There are walks round the farm and stables nearby where one can organise some riding.
