On many occasions Shanklin has recorded more yearly sunshine than everywhere else in the UK. The Shanklin chine (fissure in the cliff face) is stunning and very Jurassic. There are many restaurants offering a large variety of different foods for both adults and children. Slightly further afield there are so many activities for the children that it is impossible to list them here, however Blackgang Chine and Robin Hill theme parks should not be missed. For those interested in history then there are many buildings to visit with Carisbrooke Castle and Osborne House the most notable. Be careful though, many of the manor houses are said to be haunted. For the more active, there is surfing at Compton Bay, Golf Couses in Shanklin, Ryde, Newport, Ventnor, Cowes and Freshwater, water sports at all the larger resorts, mountain bike and rambling trails all over and much much more.
