The property is located in the Mal País, on the southern tip of the Peninsula of Nicoya, Pacific coast of Costa Rica. According to the administrative territorial division of Costa Rica, the site belongs to the District of Cóbano, County of Puntarenas, in the Province of the same name.

The house is located on a hilltop, the distance from the beginning of the hill to the house is of 800 meters. In a range of 10 to 60 minutes you have a great variety of beaches, the main closer beaches are Mal País, El Carmen, Santa Teresa, El Peñón, Hermosa and Manzanillo.

Very close to Mal País is located the Cabo Blanco Absolute Natural Reserve.  This reserve is a sanctuary for many animal species, and is located between Mal Pais and Montezuma. This is an important added value that opens the possibility to visitors of the area of enjoying the reserve with all its natural beauty.

Located on the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula just a few miles from Mal Pais or Cobuya, this refuge is a marine bird sanctuary and is one of the most beautiful park/reserves on the Pacific coast.

It is a "must see" for those who would like to experience the pristine beauty of the original virgin forests of the Nicoya Peninsula, before the clear cutting took place by the cattle ranchers and fruit growers.

The woods are predominated by evergreen species. Some of the most common trees are lancewood, bastard cedar, wild plum, gumbo-limbo, trumpet tree, dogwood, frangipani, and the spiny cedar. One spiny cedar is a veritable natural monument growing beside the trail to Maven Peak -it towers 50 meters and measures 3 meters in diameter at chest height.

Among the 119 types of trees in this reserve, the dominant species in the primary forest are spiny cedar, chicle, and espave.

The white-tailed deer, howler, spider and white-faced monkeys, porcupines, agoutis, pacas kinkajous, coyotes, long-nosed armadillos, and margay cats are also found here.

Marine birds are very numerous, particularly brown pelicans, magnificent frigatebirds, laughing gulls, common terns, and brown boobies.

Terrestrial birds include the long-tailed manakin, magpie jay, cattle egret, crested caracara, elegant tragon, white-bellied chachalaca, ringed kingfisher, sulphur-winged parakeet, and turkey vulture.

In the sea, large populations of fish, crabs, chitons, lobster, shrimp, giant chanches, and clams are present, while many other species inhabit the intertidal zone and neighboring shores.

The Mal País area is supposedly one of the world's best surf spots, not because the waves are extraordinary, but rather because of the consistent swells and crowds. Its location between the central Pacific and Guanacaste lends it big southern swells in the rainy season and good offshore breaks in the dry season.

There are actually several isolated surf spots along the coast with slightly different conditions. South of the crossroad to Playa Mal País is actually poor for surfing and better for tide pool exploration.

Playa El Carmen, directly ahead of the crossroad, has a long right wall and a shorter left breaking on a soft sandy bottom. The best spot on Playa Santa Teresa is 3km north of the crossroad behind Cabinas Santa Teresa. It's a more powerful, consistent break than El Carmen and holds a better wave at low tide.

Playa Hermosa, the next beach north of Santa Teresa, has almost no crowds and fast peaks rising along the beach. Four kilometers north of the crossroads is Playa de Los Suecos. The best place here has good lefts with frequent hollow tubes to glide through.

The beach farthest north in the area is Playa Manzanillo, an idyllic spot 8km from the crossroads with an offshore reef and waves much less reliable and less surfable than its neighbors'. It's only accessible by 4WD vehicle or a 1-1½hr. bike ride over rough roads and through shallow rivers, but it's worth a daytrip for a picnic and the amazing unspoiled scenery. Several surf shops in Mal País and Santa Teresa rent boards and provide instruction.
