Barcelona, the second largest city in Spain and the capital of Catalonia, is the perfect location for a city break or as a base for a longer holiday.

This modern cosmopolitan city, which was founded in around 230 BC, is brimming with shops, restaurants, amazing architecture, golden, sandy beaches and a historical and cultural heritage.

If you’re into art or culture, then be sure to check out at least some of the many galleries, museums and art exhibits in this Mediterranean city. There’s the National Art Museum of Catalonia, Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art, Barcelona Centre of Contemporary Culture, the Picasso Museum, the Joan Miro Foundation and the Maritime Museum and more!

There’s also no shortage of amazing architecture to see in his beautiful and vibrant city, including architect Antoni Gaudi’s work. Make sure you visit La Sagrada Familia, which is a huge church, designed by Gaudi. Construction work began in 1882 and hasn’t yet been completed! It’s estimated that it won’t be finished until 2026 – the 100th anniversary of Gaudi’s death. Gaudi’s work can also be seen at Park Güell, which has some amazing buildings, stone structures and tiling.

Barcelona is also great for a beach holiday. It boasts 4.2km of sandy beaches which are located just 10 minutes from the centre of the city.

Why you’re there, it’s also worth doing some shopping. There's a big selection of shops to check out in the city.

You could also sample some of Barcelona’s nightlife. There are live music clubs, discos, clubs and dance halls, as well as theatre and cinema, so there’s plenty to offer all tastes.

If you’re feeling hungry or thirsty, then there is no shortage of restaurants and bars in Barcelona. You can enjoy a meal and a drink outside one of the many pavement terraces or patios.
